Pindiwall Pakistani Punjabi Movie: A notorious film, likely one of the most bizarre lollywood films ever. Made in the mid seventies, it followed other sleazy films of its era (Khaternak and Khanzada etc). It has midgets, whores, criminals, heroes, antiheroes and a short guy with a funny mustache and a hat. Despite all of the weirdness, film has a strange energy, an indie spirit that is hard to miss. Clearly everyone is having fun, except for Mr. Rahi, who chews up the scenery every chance he gets.
Most of the filming is on location which was rare for Lollywood. Watch for cinema verte shots of Lahore, especially Anarkali circa 1978. Neelo, way past her prime and Sultan Rahi, about to define what it means to be a mega star, cross paths and their scenes together verge from absurd to hilarious.
Neelo puts her big rump through some arduous moves. The quintessential Heera Mandi dancer Perveen Bobby, in inspired casting, plays the co-ed, whose father is the chief inspector of police. Now that is a stretch!
