Emraan Hashmi is an Indian Bollywood film actor. Emraan worked as an assistant director with Vishesh Films before he started his career as an actor. Emraan Hashmi made his acting debut with Mahesh Bhatt's 'Footpath' (2003). He then gained tremendous recognition with his next film, Murder (2004), which was an erotic thriller and a great box office success.
Hashmi continuously appeared in several hit films, most of which were under the banner; Vishesh Films. The Critics, however, labelled him as a "one note" actor and criticized his repetitive roles. In his earlier films, those characters earned titles like the "serial kisser" and "Hit Machine". Hashmi eventually garnered praise for his performances in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), The Dirty Picture (2011), Shanghai (2012) and Ek Thi Daayan (2013). He has established himself as a leading contemporary actor of Hindi cinema.
Hashmi has received three Filmfare Award nominations in his career. He married his long-time girlfriend Parveen Shahani in 2006 and became father to a son, Ayaan Hashmi, in 2010.
Early life and background
Emraan Hashmi was born into a Muslim family on 24 March 1979 to Anwar Hashmi and Mahira Hashmi. His father, Anwar Hashmi was also an actor. Purnima Das Verma, is the biological sister of Shirin Mohammad Ali, the mother of director and producer Mahesh Bhatt. Emraan Hashmi is the nephew of Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. He is the cousin of director Mohit Suri, actress and director Pooja Bhatt and actor Rahul Bhatt. Hashmi studied at Sydenham College, Mumbai and University of Mumbai.
